about the artist

vision Ronald Demunter’s photographs are intriguing images that combine poetry, beauty and surprise, often depicting a surreal experience, that might make you ponder. His subjects are very diverse, and have been captured during many trips and walks, both through nature and the city. The resulting image is a transformation, that is impossible to determine, as transforming the moment is the ‘thinking’ itself. To paraphrase(*) Gerhard Richter ‘Photographing has nothing to do with thinking, because in photographing thinking is photographing.’ The many forms that follow each other from the moment of capturing till the printed photograph is what marks Ronald’s unique signature style.

bio °1954, living in Gent, photographer-artist by passion. Master’s degree in Biochemistry. 40+ years of business career: 20 years in the industry, 20 years in business consulting. Now retired and continuing as a photographer and career coach. Ronald has always been involved with photography since his teenage years, traveling through Europe.
In his twenties, he studied photography at the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten in Gent, and was taught by Carl De Keyzer amongst others. Traveling and walking around have always been his inspiration. A broad questioning interest that results in intriguing images.

(*) “Painting has nothing to do with thinking, because in painting thinking is painting. [ . . . ] Einstein did not think when he was calculating: he calculated — producing the next equation in reaction to the one that went before — just as in painting one form is a response to another, and so on.”
Gerhard Richter, notes 1962.
